As Nazi Germany occupied Europe during World War II, they launched a campaign of genocide against the Jews that became known as the Holocaust. In 1940, Adolf Hitler and his regime began to implement plans for mass extermination of Jews in concentration camps throughout Europe. To this day, it remains one of the most appalling acts of genocide in human history, with a profound impact on international politics and society at large.
