2. The Holocaust
As Nazi Germany occupied Europe during World War II, they launched a campaign of genocide against the Jews that became known as the Holocaust. In 1940, Adolf Hitler and his regime began to implement plans for mass extermination of Jews in concentration camps throughout Europe. By 1945, millions of Jews had been killed in what is considered one of the most horrific acts of mass murder in history.
The full scope of the Holocaust remained unknown until after World War II ended in 1945. It was only then that the world began to understand the scale and brutality of what had happened. To this day, it remains one of the most appalling acts of genocide in human history, with a profound impact on international politics and society at large.
